Police constable shots himself

An on duty police constable tried to commit suicide with his rifle in Bandar of Chittagong city yesterday.

Ananda Barua, 22, of Bandar Police Station, with bullet injury in his face is in critical condition at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said ASI Pankaj Barua.

Quoting witnesses who took Ananda to the hospital, Pankaj said Ananda shot himself beneath the chin while he was on duty at port jetty gate-3 around 4:00pm.

He was depressed about not getting leave, said police. Assistant Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (Port) Zahedul Islam said it might have fired accidentally.
