PM for tree plantation to protect environment
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday renewed her call to every adult citizen of the country to plant at least three saplings -- one timber, one fruit bearing and one herbal -- to protect the environment.
She was addressing a function marking the inauguration of the World Environment Day and Environment Fair 2015 and National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2015 held in the capital's Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh.
Earlier, the prime minister distributed National Environment Award 2015 to two individuals for their outstanding contributions to environment protection and pollution control. They are lawyer Manzill Murshid and founder of Prakiti o Jibon Foundation Abdul Mukit Majumder.
Hasina also distributed the Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation-2105 and PM's National Award-2014 for plantation among individuals, educational institutions, local government bodies, government departments and NGOs in various categories.
Prof M Monirul Hasan of Jahangirnagar University; Mohidur Rahman, director of a Nogaon-based private organisation “Nishan”; M Abdul Hamid, a resident of Putia, Rajshahi; and Rapid Action Battalion received Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation this year for creating awareness about forest and wildlife conservation.
Later, the prime minister planted a “Hoimonti” sapling on the Krishibid Institution premises and inaugurated the Tree Fair 2015 at the ground adjacent to the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
