PM should visit India, China, Russia
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should visit India, China and Russia to garner their support for the Rohingya issue.
Urging the PM to make diplomatic efforts to convince the three countries to take effective measures in this regard, he said, “If necessary, the prime minister [Sheikh Hasina] should visit India, China and Russia so they don't take any negative stance over the Rohingya crisis.”
The BNP leader made the call while addressing a press conference in Cox's Bazar.
Many international organisations, rights bodies and different countries have become vocal against the Myanmar government for its persecution of the Rohingyas while India, China and Russia endorsed its military operations in Rakhine State in the name of combating terrorism.
The government should make diplomatic efforts so the three countries do not exercise their power to veto against any resolution over the issue at the United Nations Security Council that is scheduled to meet today (Thursday), Fakhrul said.
Calling upon the government to resolve the Rohingya crisis putting aside narrow political interest, Fakhrul again stressed the need for forging national unity to resolve the crisis. “We don't want any division or disunity. Rather, we want national unity to reach a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis.”
Fakhrul and many senior leaders of the party were visiting Cox's Bazar to expedite the distribution process of relief materials that his party has sent for Rohingya refugees.
