PM leaves for Rome tomorrow
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will share Bangladesh's achievements in agriculture sector in the annual Governing Council meeting of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
She will visit Italy to attend the 41st session of IFAD meeting on February 13 at the invitation of IFAD President Gilbert F Houngbo.
During the two-day meeting, delegates will discuss how investing in sustainable rural livelihoods is central to peace, state-building and social stability around the world.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said, the premier will visit Italy and the Holy See in Rome from February 12 to 14 to present her key-note speech at the inaugural session of the IFAD meeting.
In her speech, she will also highlight government measures for development, investment on improvement of standard of life and role of local government in empowerment of rural people, the minister added.
He said the government has given the highest priority on agriculture in the fifth five-year plan and the steps to implement the programnmes for sustainable development.
Hasina will also visit the Vatican on February 12 to hold a meeting with Pope Francis at the invitation of the Pope.
Pope Francis visited Bangladesh on November 30 to December 2 last year when he attended several programmes besides meeting President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
As per the programme schedule, the prime minister and her entourage including the finance minister, agriculture minister and foreign minister will leave Dhaka tomorrow and return home on February 15 after the three-day state visit.
