Pay workers before Eid
Garment workers should be given their salary and festival bonus before Eid-ul Fitr, said leaders of Workers Party of Bangladesh, Dhaka city unit at a rally yesterday.
A section of garment factory owners often do not pay arrears before Eid or they simply shut down their factories to avoid paying the workers, they said at the rally in front of Jatiya Press Club.
"Please do not make garment workers protest on the streets for salary while the rest of the country celebrates Eid," Mustafa Alamgir, a leader of the party, urged factory owners.
Abul Hossain, another leader, urged the government not to evict hawkers from the city's streets and footpaths without rehabilitating them first.
Tapan Dutta, the party's central committee leader, among others, addressed the rally.
