Maiming of RU BCL Men

Organisation wants arrest of attackers by May 10

Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Rajshahi University unit yesterday demanded immediate arrest of two prime accused in the case of attacking BCL leaders last year.

They also threatened to launch a tougher movement if the two accused, also Islami Chhatra Shibir activists, are not arrested by May10.

On April 29, a group of alleged Shibir activists severed the ankle of Abdullah Al Masud, a history student and assistant secretary of BCL RU unit, while cut tendons of Tagar Mohammad Saleh, a folklore student and secretary for student scholarship affairs of the unit.

Aiatullah Behesti, Masud's elder brother and vice president of RU unit, yesterday at a press conference said police are reluctant to probe the case and still have not arrested the prime accused -- Ashraful Alam Emon, the then Shibir's RU unit president, and Shoyeb Shahriar, the incumbent president.

Azhar Ali, the investigation officer, said the accused went into hiding soon after the incident and he will submit the charge sheet soon.
