No BCL DU unit committee announced in council
Pro-ruling Awami League student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday hosted its Dhaka University (DU) unit's council but did not announce a new committee.
“We will announce the DU committee after scrutinising the curriculum vitae (CV) of the aspirants later. The new leaders of DU unit will be selected through discussions with policymakers,” BCL President Bodiuzzaman Shohag told The Daily Star.
Addressing as chief guest of the council at the base of Aparajeya Bangla, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader urged leaders to make the announcement before the BCL central committee's council. BCL's 28th council will be held on July 25-26.
BCL General Secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam refuted allegations of insiders that two syndicates were contesting to get favourites into the DU committee.
Over 190 CVs have been submitted till last evening, said BCL Vice-President Joydeb Nandi who is leading the three-member committee conducting the scrutiny.
As per BCL constitution, the DU committee's tenure is of one year while that of the central executive committee two years. But the last DU unit council was held four years ago on June 30, 2011.
