Youth arrested over rape in Savar

Police arrested a youth in Ashulia of Savar yesterday, in a case filed over raping a woman.

The arrestee -- Tanvir Raihan, 26, who lives at Jamgora in Ashulia -- is a private service holder.

The 20-year-old woman, a college student, filed the case on Friday, said Azharul Islam, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station.

According to the case statement, the two introduced themselves through a friend of the woman three years ago. Later, they engaged in a relationship. The youth managed to convince her to have sexual intercourse with a promise to marry her.

When the woman put pressure on him to marry, he repeatedly refused to do so by saying that he videoed sexual intercourse, it said.

Later, Tanvir raped her multiple times and last on Friday by threatening her to spread the video on internet, the woman alleged in the case.

Later, she disclosed the incident to her family and sued Tanvir, said the SI.

“We sent the woman to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical test,” he said.

A Dhaka court sent the accused to jail when he was produced before it, said the police officer.
