Every citizen of the country should come forward and work together for a cultural rejuvenation against the threats of communalism and militancy, said lawmaker and eminent media personality Asaduzzaman Noor on Wednesday.
Cultural organisation Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi arranged the programme to felicitate 10 selected personalities who received Shadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak in 2018 and 2019.
Noor, former cultural affairs minister and a 2018 Shadhinata Padak recipient, said that in his constituency, many cultural organisations could hardly arrange programmes at the District Shilpakala Academy, which reflects the limitations of the institutions.
On the importance of cultural practices and values, he said economic growth cannot be the only index to determine a country’s progress.
Ekushey Padak laureate journalist Ranesh Maitra said it is a pity that despite its anti-liberation role during 1971, Jamaat-e-Islami still had the opportunity to continue political activities in the country.
Udichi President Dr Shafiuddin Ahmed presided over the programme.
