Won’t tolerate extortion in Karwan Bazar
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday warned that the government will not tolerate any kind of extortion at the city’s Karwan Bazar.
The minister issued the warning while addressing a cleanliness drive in the country’s biggest kitchen market.
“I clearly said if you [extortionists] don’t stop extortion then leave Karwan Bazar... No one involved in criminal activities and extortion will be allowed there. Stern action will be taken against those involved in extortion.”
Before Awami League came to power, at least one murder incident used to take place every month at Karwan Bazar, he said.“But, it has stopped now following the government’s initiative.”
