Will form taskforce to digitise broadcast media: Info minister
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday said a taskforce will be formed for the digitisation of broadcast media to bring discipline in the sector.
He said this while exchanging views with members of Broadcast Journalists Centre at the meeting room of his Secretariat office in Dhaka.
Dr Hasan said the media workers (service and condition) act will be sent to parliament soon. “One or two inter-ministerial meetings will be held before sending the act to the cabinet. After getting approval there, the media workers act will be sent to the House,” he added. He also said the government has formulated the broadcast policy, and the broadcast act will be passed soon. After enacting the law, a broadcast commission will be formed in the interest of media workers.
He said the government will take actions if there is any irregularity in the electronic media sector.
The information minister said the broadcast of Bangladeshi advertisements in foreign channels has been stopped.
Referring to the problems faced by private TV channels, the minister said, “Let’s work together to save the industry.”
He added that cable operators are maintaining the serial of Bangladeshi TV channels based on each channel’s date of going on air, and they are being given higher priority that foreign channels.
