Uttaran donates warm clothes to hijras
Uttaran Foundation, a non-government organisation gave away warm clothes and blankets among hijras in the capital on January 11.
With the presence of top officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, around 500 blankets were handed to hijras at Mirpur Govt College premises.
Habibur Rahman, deputy inspector general of police (admin) and founder of Uttaran Foundation, presided over the programme while Md Asaduzzaman Mia, DMP commissioner; Masud Ahmed, deputy police commissioner of Mirpur division; Maj (retd) Mallik Moniruzzaman, director Nasa group; Kamrul Hasan, chairman, Panjeri Publications Ltd and general secretary of Uttaran Foundation, were present, according to a press release of DMP.
Speaking at the programme, the DMP commissioner assured of sincere cooperation for the development of the hijra community.
He also urged them not to feel inferior, get educated and involved in mainstream society.
