UPL and NSU hold translation workshop
The University Press Limited (UPL) and the Department of English and Modern Languages (DEML) of North South University (NSU) jointly inaugurated a two-month translation workshop on the university campus on Friday.
Dr M Ismail Hossain, pro-vice chancellor of NSU, inaugurated the workshop, said a press release.
Some 31 participants were selected for the workshop through an application process, according to organisers.
The two co-directors of the workshop -- Professor Khaliquzzaman Elias, also Professor of DEML at NSU, and Professor Abdus Selim, currently Professor at Central Women's University, -- spoke at the session about the importance of the workshop in enhancing the skills of translators.
Initiatives like this should be undertaken to reduce the gap between the number of materials available for translation into Bangla and the availability of professional and committed translators, said Mahrukh Mohiuddin, managing director of UPL.
DEML Chairman Dr AQMA Rahman Bhuiyan were also present at the inaugural ceremony, among others.
