Two killed,15 injured in road crashes
Two people were killed and some 15 others injured in road accidents in two districts yesterday.
Our correspondent from Chattogram reports, a woman was killed and at least 15 were injured as a bus fell into a roadside ditch in Mirsarai upazila.
The deceased was identified as Setara Akhter, 35, said officials of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The accident happened in front of Barotakia Eye Hospital around 11:30am. A Feni-bound bus of Star Line Paribahan ran over Setara, a pedestrian, leaving her dead on the spot, before the bus lost control and plunged into a ditch, said a fire service official.
At least 15 passengers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries, he said, adding that they were given primary treatment at a local health complex.
Our Mymensingh correspondent adds, a muezzin of a mosque was killed as a truck ran him over on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Nandail upazila.
The victim was identified as Maulana Abdul Halim, 55, of Nandail Thana Masjid.
Halim, a father of three, died on the spot when the Mymensingh-bound truck hit him.
He was going to the mosque from his Banshati village in Nandail around 3:45am, said Kamrul Islam Miah, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station.
On information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot, recovered the body and handed it over to his family members.
Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene. A case was filed with the police station.
