Two confess to murder of Sylhet teacher
Two accused in the murder case of college teacher Saifur Rahman in Sylhet yesterday confessed to the crime.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 recorded statements of Nishat Tasnim Rupa, 20; and Mojammil Hossain, 24 -- under section 164, said Zedan Al Musa, deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
They were arrested early yesterday from Tilagarh area in the city, hours after Saifur's body was recovered from a roadside ditch in Dakkhin Surma upazila.
The victim's mother filed a case yesterday, accusing unknown persons.
Nishat said she was in a relationship with Saifur, but he had started blackmailing her, threatening to post her photos and videos online.
On Saturday night, she met Saifur and fed him sweets laced with sleeping pills. Later they went to a hotel where Saifur fell asleep, and Nishat strangled him to death, Musa quoted her as saying.
“Mojammil helped her dispose of the body”, he added.
Saifur Rahman, 29, was a lecturer of Islamic History at Madan Mohan College in Sylhet.
