Two children among 12 killed in road crashes
The deathtrap of road accidents created many a new tragedy over the last two days, as 12 people were killed and at least 21 were injured in separate incidents across the country, report our correspondents and news agencies.
In Panchagarh, separate road crashes killed a boy and a schoolgirl in Tentulia and Panchagarh sadar upazila on Friday evening, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
In Tentulia, five-year-old Rajiul Islam was killed after being hit by a battery-run easy bike. The accident occurred as Rajiul was playing with an abandoned bicycle tire in front of his house on Bhajanpur-Bhutipukur road at Prodhangach village in the afternoon, said police and locals.
After the easy bike hit him, Rajiul was left in a critical condition. He was rushed to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
In Panchagarh sadar, 10th grader Mayuri Akhter (16) died under the wheels of a truck after falling off her brother-in-law's motorbike.
The tragic accident occurred on Friday evening as Mayuri was on her way to buy a school bag.
Abu Akkas Ahmed, OC of Panchagarh Police Station, confirmed that she died on the spot.
In Dinajpur, an angry mob put an ambulance on fire following an accident that left two bikers dead in Biral upazila yesterday afternoon.
The deceased are: Labu Hossain (25) and Rabbi Hossain (25). Police said they were riding a bike towards Bochaganj.
As they approached Bazar Dighi village, their bike collided head-on with the ambulance, killing both.
The incident angered nearby villagers, who came out in droves and set the ambulance on fire.
Upon information, firefighters rushed the spot and contained the fire.
The ambulance driver evaded detention by fleeing the spot, said Sheikh Nasim Habib, OC of Biral Police Station.
In Rangpur, Solaiman Ali (33) was killed after a lorry hit his tractor in Mithapukur upazila yesterday afternoon, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
Upazila police said the accident occurred after the lorry hit Solaiman's tractor from the back on the Rangpur-Bogura Highway at Joyrampur, critically injuring him. Later, he died while being taken to a local health complex.
Police could not seize the lorry or its driver, police said.In Mymensingh, two people were killed and two were injured in an accident at Meherbari on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Bhaluka upazila on Friday, reports BSS.
The deceased are Azim (21) and Rajnarbidas (28).
Police said the accident occurred when a running pick-up van hit another similar vehicle from behind, leaving one dead on the spot and three others injured. Among the injured, one succumbed to injuries while on the way to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex.
In Savar, a police constable was killed after a truck ran over him on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Ulail early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Akash Ahmed (22). He was posted at Narayanganj District Police Lines.
Police seized the truck but could not arrest the driver as he managed to flee. A case was filed with Savar Model Police Station in this regard.
In Sirajganj, an unidentified bus helper was killed and 13 others were injured in a collision between a bus and a truck at Sayedabad under the Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The injured were taken to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib 250 Bed General Hospital for treatment.
In Munshiganj, two people were killed and six were injured after a Microbus and passenger bus collided head-on at Bejgaon area in Srinagar upazila around 2pm yesterday, reports BSS.
One of the deceased was identified as Jahid (32). The other's identity could not be confirmed immediately. Both were killed on the spot. The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
in Bogura, a school girl was killed after an auto-rickshaw ran over her in Adamdighi Upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Pakhi (8), a first-grader at Joydevpur Govt Primary School.
The accident took place around 9:30am at Pitahar on Kundogram-Matpukuria Road when Pakhi was on her way to school. Critically injured, she died on the way to Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex, police said.
