Two Biman staffers sent to jail
A Dhaka court yesterday sent two traffic helpers of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to jail in a case filed over seizing 38 gold bars, weighing around four kilogrammes, from their possession at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on July 13.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order as police produced accused Emdad Hossain and Abdur Rahim after end of their five-day remand.
Alamgir Hossain Shimul, additional superintendent (ops and media) of APBn, said the gold bars were brought from Thailand through a cargo around 12:45pm on the day, and Emdad collected them from the import cargo area.
As he had no security clearance, officials detained him. They searched him and recovered the gold bars, Alamgir said. Based on his information, they arrested Rahim from the airport.
