Tragic end to a noble initiative
Noor Jamal Ghazi began his day yesterday visiting poor families in Manirampur upazila of Jashore. He had stepped out of his house from a sense of duty even during the shutdown, distributing food to those suffering during the coronavirus crisis.
His noble initiative, however, ended in tragedy. On his way back home on a motorbike, Jamal was killed in a road accident at Bagerhat Bazar area. He owned a private clinic named "Bandhan" in jail road.
Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a truck coming from the opposite side hit him.
His body was kept at Jessore Medical College morgue for autopsy, he added.
In Cumilla, a couple and their car driver were killed after the vehicle plunged into a roadside canal in Bangra Bazar area of Muradnagar yesterday morning.
The deceased were Parvin Akhter (24), Saddam Hossain (27), and Abdur Rahman (28). Kamruzzaman Talukder, officer-in-charge of Muradnagar Police Station, said the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the canal, killing all three on the spot.
