Three shopkeepers held for cheating BCS applicants
Three shopkeepers were held yesterday for cheating applicants during online registration for 40th BCS preliminary exam in Paribahan Market area of Rajshahi University.
Motihar police with the help of RU Proctor Lutfor Rahman held them from two different computer shops, providing copying and printing services, after receiving complaints from a number of applicants. The detainees are Mostak Ahmed Mamun, Arif Hossain and Rafiqul Islam, police said.
The applicants alleged that the shops cheated them Tk 600 each as the shopkeepers collected Tk 700 from each applicant, but paid only Tk 100 by filing each application under “visually disabled” category on the form. Around 300 applicants might have been victims of the scam, the proctor said.
Police have confiscated Tk 80,000 from the detainees, he said quoting police officials.
One of the victims, Jamal Uddin, said since their applications were filed under a false category, it is now uncertain whether the victims of the scam would be allowed to attend the exams.
He hoped that Public Service Commission (PSC) would intervene for the sake of so many victims of the scam.
Prof Laila Arjuman, student adviser at RU, said, the PSC authorities have assured them that they would take necessary steps to extend the date of payment by 72 hours so the victims can make additional payments against their applications.
No case was filed till filing of this report around 8:00pm last evening.
