Three held with 9,880 yaba pills
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) and Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) in separate drives arrested three persons from Chandgaon and Kotwali area of port city early yesterday.
The arrestees are Md Jubair Uddin, 32, from Cox's Bazar; Smriti Akhter, 24; and Mohammed Jahangir Alam, 31, said Rab and DB police sources.
“Smriti Akhter formerly worked as an air hostess, and Jubair Uddin is her boyfriend,” said Assistant Director of Rab-7 Media Wing Mashkur Rahman.
“Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab detained Smriti and Jubair from Station Road area under Kotwali Police station, and detained the duo along with a bag at around 12:00am,” said AD Mashkur.
Searching Smritis' bag, Rab seized 7,870 yaba pills and arrested them, he said, adding that the duo was waiting to board a Dhaka-bound bus with the pills.
The Rab official said the duo had been peddling the contraband pills from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar to Dhaka and other areas for a long time.
Meanwhile, DB men arrested Jahangir in possession with 2,010 yaba pills from Polerstar market area under Chandgaon Police Station.
Assistant Commissioner (Port) Asif Mohiuddin of DB said Jahangir is a professional yaba trader, and had been peddling yaba from Cox's Bazar and supplying it to different parts of the city.
The arrestees were handed over to the respective police station while two cases were lodged in these connections.
