‘As they were not elected by people, they feel no responsibility’
Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, standing committee member of BNP, yesterday alleged that the Awami League-led government has failed to tackle the current flood and dengue crises due to not taking prompt measures.
Water flow to Bangladesh could be controlled with the help of the Indian government, but the government failed to do that, he said.
He said this while distributing relief materials among flood affected people in Bhuapur upazila.
“As the government was not elected by people, they feel no responsibility,” he alleged.
“The prime minister is staying in London, while the government is not giving it [flood] much importance,” he said.
“We are not receiving information on noteworthy relief operations by the government. Their party [AL] men are also not standing by the flood victims,” he claimed.
Mosharraf, a former health minister, also said the present government has completely failed to control the ongoing dengue crisis due to not taking timely steps. Dengue fever has now turned into an epidemic, he said.
“Of course the government has been negligent. Initially, the two mayors of Dhaka avoided their responsibilities,” he added.
Among others, Iqbal Mahmud Tuku, standing committee member of BNP; Sultan Salahuddin, central unit general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, and Tangail district BNP’s general secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal attended the event.
