Thakurgaon road crash kills 4
Four people were killed and 39 injured in road accidents in two districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Thakurgaon, four people were killed and 31 injured as two buses collided on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway at Mandalpara village in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Babul Hossain, 28, the bus driver; Mazibar Rahman, 60; Abul Kalam Azad, 32; and Md Kamruzzaman, 42, said police.
The accident occurred around 9:50am as the two vehicles were overtaking each other, Thakurgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ashikur Rahman quoted locals as saying.
Following the collision, one of the buses skidded off the road, killing two persons on the spot, said the OC.
On information, firefighters and police recovered the bodies and took the injured to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where two others succumbed to their injuries, said the police officer.
In Chattogram, eight persons including six Chittagong University (CU) teachers were injured as a bus hit a road divider in Boro Dighirpar area of Hathazari upazila.
The injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and Delta Hospital, said CU acting proctor Pranab Mitra Chowdhury.
The accident took place while the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle at high speed, he added.
