Sunnydale sweeps Asian debate competition

Debaters of reputed Dhaka-based English medium school Sunnydale have taken the top two positions in the "high school" section of the Asian British Parliamentary (ABP) Debate Championships in Hanoi, Vietnam. "Sunnydale 2" team won the tournament, while "Sunnydale 1" became runners-up. Debojyoti Biswas of "Sunnydale 1" was named the best speaker (school) of the tournament, while his teammate Al Wasee M Fahmiddaula was named best speaker of the final, informed Salma Parvin, moderator of Sunnydale Debate Club. Jumanah Ahmed from Viqarunnisa Noon School (VNS) was ranked second in the best speaker category of the tournament.

Eight school teams from Bangladesh took part in the event, among 30 teams from a number of Asian nations. Of them, two teams from VNS also made it to the semifinal.

The university-level segment of the competition saw nine Bangladeshi teams take part among 90 teams. Among them, two teams from Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Dhaka University, reached the open quarterfinals, among which Sajid Khandaker and Souradip Paul from "IBA 1" reached the open finals.
