Submit probe report on ‘Prof’ Abu Sayeed by March 7
A Dhaka court yesterday asked the officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police to submit the probe report by March 4, in a case filed against former state minister and Awami League leader Prof Abu Sayeed for using “Prof” before his name.
Metropolitan Magistrate Moshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan passed the order after the investigation officer of the case failed to submit the probe report yesterday.
On December 10 last year, Prof SM Nasif Shams, an assistant professor of Dhaka University, filed a fraud case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.
In the case Prof SM Nasif Shams said that Abu Sayeed was never a Professor. However, he was a part-time lecturer of Rajshahi University for a short time.
Abu Sayeed has been identifying himself as a “Prof at different places, in his books, and in the affidavit submitted to Election Commission Secretariat – which is tantamount to fraud, the complainant added.
Prof Abu Sayeed, a former Awami League state minister for information, joined Gonoforum, a component of the Jatiya Oikyafront last year and also collected the party's nomination form to contest the national polls from Pabna-1 constituency – after he failed to obtain a party ticket from Awami League.
Sayeed was elected as an AL lawmaker from Pabna-1 constituency in the elections in 1970 and 1996. He was also a central leader of the AL.
