A teenage girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Dhanmondi Lake, Dhaka, following what is believed to be an altercation with her sister last night.

Deceased Mosharat Khandaker Imy, 17, daughter of Qatar expatriate Liaqat Hossain Litu, was an A-Level student of European Standard School, Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station told The Daily Star.

Two youths took Imy to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where she was declared dead around 11:00pm last night, the OC said.

She had an altercation with her younger sister on Saturday evening. Her younger sister took sleeping pills and she was taken to a local clinic in Dhanmondi, the police official said quoting the mother of the deceased.

"As all family members were busy dealing with her younger sister, Imy went out their residence and jumped into the lake. Later, two youths rushed her to DMCH," he said.

Police are primarily suspecting it was an incident of suicide.
