Student, doctor killed in road accidents
Two people were killed and others injured in road accidents in two districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Jeshore, a college student was killed and two of his mates injured as their motorbike and a battery-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Jatin-Kashem road area of Keshabpur upazila.
The deceased -- Abdur Rahman Gazi, 21, an 11th-grader of Chuknagar College -- along with the two was going to the institution, said Shahjahan Ahmed, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Keshabpur Police Station.
In Manikganj, a doctor was killed as a sand-laden truck rammed his motorcycle on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Tara Bridge area, said police.
A Manikganj hospital sources said Manjur Alam Khan, 42, from Singair area, was posted at Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex as a child specialist.
Police said the doctor was going to his workplace by riding the motorcycle.
After the accident, locals initially took the physician to Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Later, he was transferred to Savar's Enam Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead.
Police seized the truck of which driver managed to flee.
