Six killed in road accidents
At least six people were killed and four injured in road accidents across the country yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents and news agencies.
In Rajshahi, two mango traders were killed as a mango carrying truck fell into a ditch in Godagari upazila.
The deceased are Md Nuruzzaman, 50, and Ayub Khan, 52, from Jhikargachha upazila of Jashore.
The accident occurred around 5am when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle amid rain, police said.
The driver and two other traders were injured. They were admitted to a local health complex.
In Khulna, two people were killed after a head-on collision between a Nosimon (three-wheeler) and a pickup at Shahider Mor under Arongghata Police Station.
The deceased are Ariful and Insan, from Kuldiya Bomrogari village in Digholia upazila of the district.
Ariful was killed on the spot while Insan was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, police said.
Police seized the pickup but its driver managed to flee.
In Habiganj, a pedestrian was killed as a bus crushed him on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Shahpur in Madhabpur upazila.
The deceased is Firoj Mia, 65, from Alinagar village of the upazila.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when Firoj was crossing the highway. He died on the spot.
The body was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Shaistaganj Highway Police seized the bus, and a case was filed in this regard.
In Natore, A motorcyclist died and the passenger was injured as the rider lost control of the vehicle and hit a roadside tree in Jamtoli area of Naldanga upazila, police said.
The deceased is Apurba Sarker, 18, from Gosol village of the upazila.
Apurba died on spot; police later recovered the body.
