Six get life term in Khulna murder case
A Khulna court yesterday sentenced six people to life term in a case filed over killing Ripon Roy in Batiaghata of the district in 2007.
Judge Md Saifuzzaman Hiro of Public Safety Disturbance Crime Prevention Tribunal of Khulna, pronounced the verdict. Two others accused in the case were acquitted.
The convicts are: Moniruzzaman Gharami, Humayun Sarder, Zahangir Sarder, Kader sheikh, Enamul Sheikh, and Pintu Sheikh.
Humayun Kabir Babu and Hannan Mollick were acquitted by the court.
Public prosecutor Arif Mohammad told that on the night of April 1, 2007, Ripon Roy was killed by the accused with sharp weapons while he was returning home from his CD shop at Britti Khalishibunia under the upazila. Following the murder, the culprits left the body lying by the road-side.
On information from locals, Batiaghata police recovered the dead body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
On April 2, Ripon’s father filed a murder case at Batiaghata Police Station .
On July 20 of 2010, SI Khan Mahbubur Rahman of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a charge sheet against the eight accused.
