A show of strength
Awami League led 14-party leaders staged a major show of strength in Rajshahi city yesterday afternoon and the event eventually turned into an election campaign.
AL lawmakers and leaders from different districts of the division went to the meeting with huge number of supporters and sought nomination. The supporters showed portraits of their leaders and chanted slogans in favour of them.
The speakers, however, asked party men to stay alert against any conspiracy of the BNP-Jamaat alliance to incite violence after the August 21 grenade attack case verdict today.
Rajshahi unit of 14-party coordinator and Mayor AHM Khairuzzman Liton chaired the meeting in Shaheb Bazar area.
“Stay alert against any conspiracy of the BNP-Jamaat axis,” said AL Presidium Member and Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammad Nasim.
Attending as chief guest, Nasim also asked party activists to resist any unlawful activity to destabilise peace. He said the party has been in power for ten years and some lawmakers might have some wrongdoings during the period. “The prime minister would punish all who committed wrongs.”
Worker's Party President Rashed Khan Menon criticised the formation of Jukto Front and its preparations for the election. He said the forces behind the Jukto Front are the same forces behind the 2007 caretaker government.
Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua termed the alliance of Jukto Front “conspirators”. He said conspirators against the country's peace never succeeded.
Jatiya Party General Secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Rajshahi lawmaker Fazle Hossain Badsha also spoke.
