'Selling yaba to fund sabotage'
Police arrested a leader of pro-BNP youth organisation Jubo Dal with 223 yaba pills in Chattogram city's Sadarghat area early yesterday, claiming that he was running a yaba business with an aim to collect funds for carrying out subversive activities.
Arrestee Bappu Kumar Das, 27, is general secretary of Raozan College Jubo Dal unit, said Nezam Uddin, OC of Sadarghat Police Station.
“Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided Bappu's rented house in Alkaran area and caught him with the pills,” said the OC.
OC Nezam said during primary interrogation Bappu admitted that he is a yaba retailer, and used to sell the pills through his associates to “collect fund for carrying out sabotage”.
A case was filed. the OC said.
Contacted, Belayet Hossain, member of district BNP convening committee, said, “I have known Bappu for a long time. He is an active Chhatra Dal member. As far as I know, he is not involved in any such [yaba/sabotage] activity.”
Belayet termed the case “false and fabricated” and said it was filed to harass their party members.
