Schoolboy among 5 killed in road accidents
Five people were killed and 18 others injured in road accident in six districts during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Jhenidah, a schoolboy was killed as a truck ran him over while he was crossing a road. The 12-year-old was on his way to school in the town's Bypass area yesterday.
Imran Hossain, son of Lokman Ali from Shikarpur village in Sadar upazila, was a sixth-grader of the town's Al-Hera Secondary School.
His schoolmates blocked the road for half an hour demanding a speed breaker there, and sought exemplary punishment for the driver.
Police said they seized the truck, and are trying to arrest the driver who fled the scene.
In Gopalganj, a man was killed and 13 others were injured as a nosimon (locally assembled three-wheeler) and a battery-run auto-rickshaw collided on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Fakirkandi area of Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased -- Kamrul Sikder, 35, from Siararbor village in Lohagara upazila -- was driving the nosimon.
Locals said the injured – from both the vehicles -- were taken to a local hospital.
In Noakhali, two riders of a motorcycle were killed and five others injured as a car hit the bike on Oskhali Tomroddi road in Hatiya upazila yesterday.
Ariful Islam, 25, died on the spot and his co-rider Mohammad Yousuf, 28, on the way to Noakhali General Hospital, said police.
The injured were in the car that plunged into a roadside ditch.
In Panchagarh, the driver of a brick-laden tractor and his helper were killed when one of its tyres burst and the vehicle fell into a ditch beside Dhaka-Panchagarh highway in Muslimbag village of Boda upazila on Saturday evening.
Driver Monsur Ali, 42, from Panchagarh town; and his helper Chottrish Chandra, 38, from Bhimpukur village in Boda, died on the spot, said police.
In another incident, Abdus Salam, 45, and his wife Munni Akhter, 38, from the town's Rajnagar were injured when a truck hit their motorbike on Panchagarh-Banglabandha highway at Barrister Bazar in Sadar upazila of Panchagarh the same evening.
They were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Shortly after, three passengers of a rickshaw-van were injured as a truck hit it on the same highway in front of Moynaguri BGB camp in the district.
The injured are Tasirul Islam, 45, from Mirgarh Dangabari village; his daughter Bithi Akhter, 18; and Ruhul Amin, 40, from Magura Dhonipara village.
Of them, Tasirul was taken to RMCH.
In Thakurgaon, a boy was killed when a microbus hit him while he was crossing Ranishankoil-Baliadangi road in Chandanchahat village of Ranishankoil upazila on Saturday noon.
The victim is six-year-old Habibullah, son of Toiyab Ali from Chandanchahat village.
In Madaripur, a man was killed as a pickup van hit him while he was crossing Madaripur-Shariatpur road in Pakdi area of Sadar upazila on Saturday.
Abdul Rahman Bapari, 60, from Paldi village in the upazila, was a farmer.
