SCCI elects top brass
Abu Taher Mohammad Shoeb has been elected president of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) for 2019-2021.
The chamber also elected Chandan Saha and Tahmin Ahmed as senior vice president and vice president respectively.
The new board of 22 directors were directly elected on September 21. Sammilita Byabsayi Parishad secures majority in the polls with 13 director positions, while Sylhet Byabsayi Parishad’s nine candidates were elected.
On September 22, six candidates -- three from each parishad -- submitted their nomination papers to the election management board for the three positions.
But on Monday morning, three withdrew their nominations and the board declared the remaining three as uncontested president, senior vice president and vice president, Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan, chairman of the board said.
