Robert Douglas Simpson has joined as the new Representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Bangladesh.
Simpson, a US citizen, has been working on the forest governance with the Forestry Department of FAO Headquarters since 2009, said a UN FAO press release on Wednesday.
Simpson has over 20 years of work experience in various countries including the US, Madagascar and Liberia.
Before joining FAO, he worked for the United States Embassy in Antananarivo, Madagascar and later for conservation and forest management, primarily with the Malagasy Government in several of its regional offices.
Simpson has also worked for the United States Forest Service as the Liberia Forest Initiative Program Coordinator to support the Liberian Government's forest sector reform process following the UN Security Council-imposed sanctions.
His last assignment was as the Manager of the FAO-EU Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade Programme at the FAO Headquarters in Italy.
