Road mishaps kill three
Three people have died in road accidents over the last 24 hours across two districts, report our correspondents.
In Pabna, at least two people, including a schoolboy, were killed while another was injured in two separate accidents in Ishwardi upazila yesterday, reports our Pabna correspondent.
The accidents took place on Ishwardi-Lalpur road at Baghoil of Pakshey union and Gokulnagar.
The deceased were identified as school student Md Obaidul Hossain (15), and Afzal Hossain (35).
In Baghoil, the accident occurred when Obaidul was going to Pakshey Bazar with his father on a rickshaw at noon. Suddenly, a tractor hit their rickshaw, leaving the duo injured, said Bahauddin Faruki, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station.
They were taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex where Obaidul succumbed to his injuries.
Police have captured the tractor and arrested the driver from the spot.
In Gokulnagar, Afzal Hossain died after a motorbike hit the auto-rickshaw he was travelling in at noon.
As the motorbike hit the auto-rickshaw's battery, it exploded, leaving Afzal critically injured.
He was taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex where he was announced dead in the afternoon, OC Faruki said.
In another accident in Jamalpur, a livestock office staffer was killed and another person injured in a road crash in Madarganj upazila yesterday morning, reports our Jamalpur correspondent.
The deceased -- identified as Minhaj Uddin (40) -- was a computer operator at Madarganj Upazila Livestock Office.
Minhaj was going to attend office on his motorbike when another bike hit him head-on, while trying to overtake a tractor.
The accident occurred in front of an Alim madrasa at Muslemabad village around 10am.
Following the collision, Minhaj skidded off the bike and went under the wheels of the running tractor, dying on the spot, while the other biker sustained critical injuries, said Madarganj Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam, quoting locals.
