Road crashes claim four lives
In another grim day on the road, four more people were added to the tally of deaths caused by accidents, report our correspondent and UNB.
In Mymensingh, at least one person was killed and 15 others were injured in a road accident at Masterbari area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was a male of around 50 years of age. However, his identity could not be confirmed as of filing this report, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
Quoting locals, Al Mahmud Adnan, in-charge of Bhaluka Highway Police Outpost, said the accident took place around 10am when a Dhaka-bound bus hit a sand-laden truck from behind while jostling to overtake another Dhaka-bound bus. This killed the deceased on the spot.
The injured were taken at Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex. Later, four of them were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) as their condition deteriorated.
Police seized the bus and truck but the drivers managed to flee the scene. Police drives are on to arrest the drivers. A case was lodged with Bhaluka Police Station in this regard.
In Magura, three people -- including a student -- were killed and five others were injured in separate road accidents, all involving human hauliers, in the Sadar upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Kiblu Mridha (45), Yasin Molla (25), and Bayzid Molla (14).
In front of the Parnanduali mosque, a truck collided head-on with a human haulier around 5:30am, leaving human haulier driver Kiblu dead on the spot.
Meanwhile in Ghumgati area, another human haulier driver Yasin was killed and five others were injured after a truck hit Yasin's vehicle.
In Pistopur area, ninth grader Bayzid died after his motorcycle was hit by a human haulier. Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Saiful Islam said the body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Three separate cases were filed over the accidents, he said.
