Road accidents take six lives
Six people were killed and two others injured in road accidents in four districts during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Gazipur, a truck hit another truck from behind yesterday, leaving both the truckers dead and two others injured.
The accident occurred on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kaliakoir area.
Mizan, 28, died on the spot and Delwar Hossain, 23, succumbed to his injuries at Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur of Tangail, said police.
The truck driven by Mizan crashed into the other truck parked on the road when Delwar was changing a wheel, said AKM Kauser, officer-in-charge of Gorai Highway Police Station in Tangail.
The injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
In Thakurgaon, a motorcyclist and his co-rider were killed after their motorbike and a tractor collided head-on on Ranishankoil-Bhandagram road in front of Gajirhat College in Ranishankoil area on Friday night.
Locals took Abdus Sabur, 24, and Jahangir Alam, 25, to Ranishankoil Upazila Health Complex where they were declared dead, said police.
In Bagerhat, Sheikh Modasser Ali, 55, headteacher of Doiboggohati Secondary School in Morrelganj upazila, was killed as a bus hit him while he was standing beside Bagerhat-Pirojpur highway in Fatepur area of Kachua upazila yesterday.
Modasser, who was from Chandarpara village, was taken to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where he was declared dead, said fire service officials.
In Rajbari, a transport worker was killed as a truck ran him over in Beel Paturia village of Kalukhali upazila on Friday evening.
After loading sand from a nearby riverbank, the truck reached a turn on the road, said police.
Abbas Ali, 35, from Khankanapur village in Goalanda upaizla, was helping the trucker make a turn, staying behind the vehicle, Kalukhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge quoted locals as saying.
At one stage, the driver failed to remember where Abbas was standing. He moved the vehicle backward and ran him over, said the OC.
