Road accidents kill two, injure 18
At least two people were killed and 18 injured in road accidents across the country yesterday, according to our correspondents.
In Madaripur, college student Rakib Hossain, 18, was killed when a bus hit his motorbike at Kathalbari Ferry Ghat area in Shibchar, police quoted locals as saying.
Rakib was rushed to a nearby health complex where a doctor declared him dead.
Police seized the bus and arrested its driver.
In Manikganj, at least 17 people were injured when two buses collided at Baniajuri Shashanghat area in Ghior upazila, said police, quoting passengers.
The injured were taken to Manikganj District Hospital.
In Satkhira, Fatima Khatun, 30, was killed when a pickup van hit the motorbike carrying her at Kumira Kadomtala area in Tala upazila.
Her husband Azizur Rahman, who was riding the bike, was injured.
Police, quoting witnesses, said after the collision, both the husband and wife fell on the road. Fatima died on the spot, while the van driver fled the scene.
Locals took critically injured Azizur to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Fatima’s body was sent to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
