Road accidents kill six
At least six persons were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents across four districts yesterday.
In Dhaka, Adabar Thana unit BCL leader Redwanul Kabir Shuvo, 32, was killed after his speeding bike was hit by a private car in the capital's Hatirjheel, police said. The incident also injured his pillion rider Mithun Hosen Mithu, 30, another BCL leader of the same unit.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Shuvo dead, said Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, adding that Mithu was released after being given first aid.
In Chattogram, truck driver Jahangir Alam, 35, and helper Abdur Rashid, 35, were killed as their truck hit another on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Mirsarai upazila yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The accident took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit another truck killing the duo on spot, said Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director (DAD) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Chattogram zone.
The incident injured another assistant Badrul, who was taken to a local hospital, said the official.
In Chandpur, seventh-grader Saifur Rahman Afif, 13, was killed as a tractor ran him over in Faridganj upazila, police said quoting locals. The tractor was seized but the driver fled; a case was filed in this regard.
In another incident in Chandpur, farmer Ferdous Talukder, 42, was killed after a sand-laden truck ran him over on Sadar upazila, reports our correspondent.
The incident also injured farmer Billal Khan, 55, police said, adding, the truck was seized but its driver fled. A case was also filed in this connection.
Meanwhile in Gaibandha, battery-run auto-rickshaw driver Aminul Islam, 35, was killed on spot as his vehicle collided head-on with a pick-up van on Shaghata-Gaibandha road.
The incident also injured three passengers of the vehicle, police said, adding the pick-up was seized but the driver and his helper fled.
