Road accidents kill five

College student’s forearm gets severed as bus hits him

Five people were killed and three injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Bogura, two people were killed and two injured as a truck hit another truck parked on Bogura-Rangpur highway in Buzrukbaria area.

Al-Amin, 28, from Gokul village in Sadar upazila; and Biplob Hossain, 20, from Dighalkandi village in the upazila, died on the spot, said police.

The parked truck loaded with jackfruits got damaged and was being repaired, said Sadar Police Station Inspector Rezaul Karim.

The accident happened when a stone-laden truck hit it from behind, he said, adding that the fruit-laden truck eventually hit two men standing in front of it.

The injured -- driver of the stone-laden truck and his helper -- were undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Both the vehicles were seized, said the police officer.

Meanwhile, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed after the vehicle and a bus collided head-on on Bogura-Naogoan highway at Dupchanchia Thana bus stand in Bogura.

Hasan Ali, 25, from Buroil in Kahaloo upazila, was declared dead at the hospital, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia Police Station.

They seized the bus but the driver managed to flee, said the OC.

In Rajshahi, forearm of a college student travelling in a bus got severed after a truck hit him in Katakhali area yesterday, said police.

Md Feroz, 25, a master’s student of social welfare department at Rajshahi Government College, kept his right arm on the window, said Nibaron Chandra Karmaker, officer-in-charge of Katakhali Police Station.

He was going to Rajshahi from his Nandigram home in Bogura to attend an exam, said the OC.

Locals took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Hours later, police recovered the severed forearm from the spot and sent it to the hospital, said the OC.

Hospital sources said he was taken to the operation theatre.

Police could not identify the truck yet.

In Pabna, a motorcyclist was killed as a bus hit him in Kashinathpur area of Santhia upazila.

Biplob Hossain, 37, from Pally Mangal in Bogura, died on the spot, said police.

The bus driver managed to flee, they added.

In Lalmonirhat, a man was killed instantly as his motorcycle and a truck collided on Lalmonirhat-Buirimari highway in Sratidhar area of Kaliganj upazila.

The deceased -- Nur Islam, 48 -- was from Barakhata village in Hatibandha upazila.

The truck driver managed to flee with the vehicle, said police.
