Road accidents kill five
Five people were killed and 11 others injured in four districts in the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Faridpur, two people were killed and seven others injured as a bus hit another bus that later collided with a pickup truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gojaria area of Nagarkanda upazila yesterday.
Following the accident, angry locals blocked the highway for one and a half hours.
Azizur Rahman Munshi, 55, helper of the pickup truck's driver, died on the spot while Hafizur Rahman alias Badol, 40, a passenger of a bus, succumbed to his injuries on way to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, said police.
Munshi was from Hoglakandi area in Faridpur and Badol from Tungipara in Gopalganj.
The injured were in both the buses. Two of them were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and the other five to upazila health complex.
In Jashore, a journalist was killed as a truck hit his motorbike in the town's Cold Storage crossing area on Sunday night.
Ashiqul Alam Sabuj, 33, from the town's Nilganj Tatipara area, was a sub-editor of the daily Samajer Kagoj of Jashore.
Kotwali police said they arrested trucker Shahin.
Jessore Union of Journalists expressed deep shock at the death.
In Dinajpur, a man was killed as a truck hit him while he was walking along Dinajpur-Parbatipur road in Dangapara village of Parbatipur upazila on Sunday night.
Bipul Mia, 25, from Chakla Bazar village, died on the spot.
In Munshiganj, a man was killed and at least four passengers of a car were injured after the vehicle and a truck collided head-on on Dhaka-Mawa-Shimulia highway in Kumarbhog area of Louhajang yesterday.
The accident caused a 1km tailback, said police.
The deceased -- Fuad, 40 -- was driving the car. He was from the capital's Uttara.
The injured -- Samiul, 45, Khadija Akhter, 38, Russel, 40, and Naima Akhter, 42 -- are his friends. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
