Road accidents kill 8
At least eight people were killed and seven injured in road accidents across the country in the last two days, our correspondents and news agencies report.
In Rangpur, three people were killed and two injured after a collision between an ambulance and bus at Bachurbanda area of Taraganj upazila around 7am yesterday. The deceased are ambulance driver Rubel (30), and its passengers Biplob (20) and Shathi Akhtar (25), said police.
Biplob and Shathi died on the spot after the ambulance collided with a bus of Dipjol Paribahan around 7am.
On information, police rushed the injured to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where Rubel was declared dead.
Police seized the bus but its driver and helper fled.
In Jhenidah, at least two people were killed on the spot, including a minor, in separate road crashes yesterday.
The deceased are Roni Ahmad (10), son of Bahazzel Hossain; and Kamal Hossain (31). Rony was a fourth-grader of Govt Ghighati Primary School, and Kamal was a human-haulier driver.
In the district’s Kaliganj upazila, Rony was playing near Kaliganj-Kotchandpur road. At one point, while he was crossing the road, a speeding microbus ran him over.
In Moheshpur upazila, Kamal was driving a human haulier. When he reached near Bazrapur village, a truck collided with his vehicle.
In Mymensingh, bus helper Abul Hossain (40) was killed and five bus passengers were injured after it collided with a truck at Kazir Shimla area of Trishal upazila around 7:30am yesterday. Quoting locals, police said the bus hit a truck from behind, injuring six people initially.
They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Abul dead. Police sent his body to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy. Police seized both vehicles but their drivers fled. A case was lodged.
In Habiganj, Shajahan Mia (55), was killed after a speeding truck hit his motorbike at Kalimnagar area of Shaistaganj upazila on Tuesday evening, said police.
He was the general secretary of Habiganj Zila Truck-Tank-Lorry Workers Union.
Locals rushed him to a hospital, where doctors referred him to a hospital in Dhaka for better treatment. Shahjahan died around 1am on his way to Dhaka, they added.
In Pabna Sadar upazila, van driver Ebadot Ali (70) was killed on the spot after a collision between a truck and van at Naldah area on Tuesday noon, said police.
Police seized the truck and a case was filed in this connection.
