Road accidents kill 2 in Dhaka
Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the capital's Basundhara and Bangshal area early yesterday.
Shakib Chowdhury Turja, 22, a student of Computer Science and Technology Department of North South University, sustained critical injuries after a car he was driving ploughed through a footpath and hit an electric pole, around 1:30am. He was declared dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital, said Md Al Helal, a sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station.
His cousin Fardin Khan, 24, who was also in the car, is receiving treatment at the hospital, he said.
The accident took place as Turja and his cousin were on their way to Bashundhara area to distribute clothes among their friends and relatives for Turja's brother's wedding, the police official said. Turja was driving the car in high speed, said another policeman.
Menawhile, a covered-van helper Abdur Rahman, 40, sustained critical injuries after a truck hit the vehicle while he was unloading goods at around 5am in Bangshal.
He was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
