Road accidents in 4 districts take 5 lives
In another regrettable day on the roads, five people were killed in separate accidents across four districts in the last two days, report our correspondents. In addition, a man lost his right leg after being a hit by a truck at Joypurhat.
In Netrokona, two people were killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Aamtoli area in Kalmakanda upazila yesterday morning. The deceased were identified as Kaium Bhuiyan (53) and Jalal Munshi (63).
The accident occurred when a Kalmakanda-bound truck collided head-on with a battery-run auto-rickshaw. The collision killed auto-rickshaw driver Kaium and Jalal on the spot, Kalmakanda police told our Mymensingh correspondent, quoting locals.
The injured, both passengers on the auto-rickshaw, were taken to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex.
Police seized both vehicles but the truck driver managed to flee the scene. A case was lodged with Kalmakanda Police Station in this regard.
Meanwhile in Rajbari, five-year-old Lamya Akter was killed in an accident at Canal Ghat area under Goalanda upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred when a battery-run three-wheeler ran her over while she was crossing a road. She later died at Goalanda Upazila Health Complex, Abdul Al Tayabir, OC of Goalanda Police Station, told our Faridpur correspondent.
Police are on the hunt for the driver, said the OC.
In Dinajpur, two separate accidents killed two people yesterday morning, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
In Khansama, garment worker Runa Aktar (18) died in an accident at Chowrangi Bazar around 6am. On her way to Uttara EPZ in Syedpur of Nilphamari, Runa was critically injured after her three-wheeler collided head-on with another three-wheeler. She was taken to Nilphamari Sadar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
In Nawabganj, Nur Nabi (25) died after falling from a running tractor at Domile.
In Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat, Abu Taher (44) lost his right leg after a truck hit him from behind. He is undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
