Rab rescues abducted student from capital
Members of Rapid Action Battalion yesterday rescued a student of Islamic University in Kushtia from the capital's Shahbagh area, eight days after he was abducted in the city for ransom.
The elite force also arrested alleged kidnapper Tahirul Islam alias Parvez, 22, with Tk 25 lakh ransom money from the area around 3pm.
Quoting the victim's father, Rab-10 Second-in-Command Maj Ashraful Haq said Sharif Bin Mohammad Sagar, 22, went missing at 5:45pm on January 19 from Jatrabari area after he went to a nearby mosque to pray.
Family members tried to reach him over the phone but found it switched off. That night, an unknown man called Sagar's father Mohammad Hossain, using his son's phone.
The caller asked Hossain to keep Tk 25 lakh ready within 48 hours, and also sent an SMS demanding the ransom, threatening to kill his son otherwise, said Maj Ashraf.
The victim's father filed a case with Jatrabari Police Station and informed the matter to the commander of Rab-10. A Rab team led by Maj Ashraful raided Shahbagh area around 1pm yesterday and rescued the victim.
