Probe body finds no anomalies in Ducsu polls

The Dhaka University authorities did not find any anomalies in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election.
The probe body, formed to investigate allegations of irregularities in Ducusu polls, submitted their report in a syndicate meeting last night in which they claimed to have found no proof of irregularities, reports our DU correspondent.
“We did not find any mentionable authenticity of the allegations that were raised centring the Ducsu polls,” DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Samad told The Daily Star.
After 28 years, the Ducsu election was held on March 11 but five panels except Bangladesh Chhatra League boycotted the polls bringing the widespread allegation of vote rigging and ballot stuffing.
In the face of students’ protest demanding fresh election, the university authorities formed a seven-member probe body on March 21.
“No one has told the probe body that he or she was barred from casting votes or could not cast vote due to a shortage of time,” Humayun Kabir, a member of the probe body, told The Daily Star.
“Besides, no one submitted any written complaint to the concerned hall provost on the polling day. Those who have brought allegation gave paper cutting as proof. But irregularities cannot be proved on the basis of that,” he added.
Nurul Haque Nur a quota reform leader won the vice president post of the Ducsu while the BCL leaders bagged a total of 23 posts out of 25, including general secretary and assistant general secretary.
