Policeman dies after being hit by motorcycle
A police constable, who was ploughed by a motorcyclist during an anti-narcotics drive on Saturday night, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital yesterday evening.
The deceased Abu Bakkar Siddik, 45, was a police constable of Premtali Police Investigation Centre under Godagari Police Station, additional SP Iftekhayer Alam, the spokesman of Rajshahi district police said.
Siddik, hailing from Naogaon’s Manda upazila, breathed his last at 6:20pm while undergoing treatment at the hospital’s ICU with several critical injuries on his head, forehead and legs, Alam said.
Thirteen hours earlier at 11:30pm on Saturday, a motorcyclist ploughed Siddik while the police constable was signalling him to stop for checking at Premtoli on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway.
A team of policemen were conducting an anti-narcotics drive at that time.
Both the policeman and motorcyclist fell on the ground and were rushed to Premtali Hospital. A few hours later, both of them were shifted to RMCH.
Police is yet to identify the motorcyclist and Alam said, the motorcyclist is undergoing treatment and the law enforcers are enquiring about him.
