plastic pollution: Bela and YES launch campaign in Cox’s Bazar
To raise awareness among tourists to save biodiversity of the world's longest sea beach, a campaign has been launched in Cox's Bazar.
Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) and Youth Environment Society (YES) initiated the movement against plastic and polythene on Friday.
The organisations also handed out leaflets, emphasising negative impact of the materials on environment.
Ibrahim Khalil Mamun, chief executive of YES, said plastic and polythene litter the sea beach. "That's why we launched the campaign to spread awareness among tourists," he said.
He also mentioned that the High Court on January 6 directed the authorities to ban single-use plastic products in coastal areas, hotels, motels and restaurants in one year as they are health and environmental hazards.
