A pickup van and a truck collided head-on on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj yesterday, leaving all three aboard the former vehicle dead, reports our local correspondent.
Police said the incident took place around 6:45am in front of Nayadingi Rising Spinning Mill in Saturia upazila.
Pickup driver Mansur Ali, 25, succumbed to his injuries on his way to Dhaka for treatment. His helper Habibur Rahman, 20, and passenger Zillur Rahman, 27, died on the spot, said AKM Mamun, sub-inspector of Golora Highway Police Station.
Zillur, a chicken trader, was from Teghuri village in Jeshore's Keshabpur upazila while the other two were from Bhangarkhola village in the upazila. The vehicle loaded with chicken was going to Dhaka from Jashore. It was taken to the police station after it was badly damaged.
Police seized the other truck, but its driver and his helper managed to flee, said the SI.
Our correspondent from Pabna adds, a boy died after being hit by a three-wheeler auto-rickshaw in Bahadurpur area of Chatmohar upazila on Thursday evening.
The victim -- Sourav, 3, son of Akkas Ali from Bahadurpur village -- was crossing a road near his residence around 6pm, said Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nasir Uddin.
Locals took him to the upazila health complex. Later, he was transferred to Pabna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
