Demand for Implementation of CHT Accord

PCJSS to boycott markets July 29

Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and its associated organisations yesterday announced a dawn-to-dusk "Bazaar boycotting" programme in Rangamati district for July 29.

The declaration came from a conference of Parbatya Chattagram Mahila Samity, and Parbatya Chattagram Juba Samity (PCJS) on Rajar Math in Bandarban.

PCJSS, CHT Mahila Samilty, Hill Women's Federation, PCJS, and Pahari Chhatra Parishad jointly organised the programme.

The speakers urged the people from all walks of life to refrain from buying and selling all kinds of essentials in all 10 upazilas of Rangamati on that day as part of a non-cooperation movement demanding the full implementation of the CHT peace accord. They said the movement has been going on since May 1 this year.

The speakers threatened to go for a tougher movement if their demand is not met immediately.

Gunendu Bikash Chakma, joint secretary of PCJSS, was the chief guest at the function. After the programme, hundreds of indigenous people of Bandarban paraded through the main roads in the district town.
