One held with foreign currencies at Ctg airport
Customs officials seized foreign currencies worth Tk 50 lakh and arrested a passenger in this connection from the departure lounge at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram yesterday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Abdul Shukkur, son of Shah Alam hailing from Hathazari upazila under Chattogram district. He was trying to fly to Dubai in flight BG-0147 of Bangladesh Biman Airlines scheduled to fly at 6:30pm. He was carrying the currencies in his luggage.
The currencies were hidden inside a box of jackfruit and pineapple, said Md Nurudin Milon, Deputy Commissioner of customs.
The officials found Saudi Riyal, UAE Dirham, Dinar and US Dollar, worth Tk 50 lakh, Milon said.
He was arrested on charges under anti-money laundering act, Milon added.
